So the trip has begun and I am so stoked. I arrived Saturday night in Panama City, Panama and thus, began a 7 week trip through Central America visiting 6 different nations where Christian Surfers International is doing ministry.
I was excited to start my trip in Panama because I had already made relationships with everyone in the ministry when I was here in April for the ISA World Junior Surfing Games. CS Panama is one official chapter in the city and they hold bible studies every Tuesday night for a large group of surfers. They have also been visiting the beach community of San Carlos monthly and holding services for the locals there. Mike Proctor and his wife Lory are leading the ministry as the National Directors.
Here in Panama, Christian Surfers has a very close relationship with Christian Skaters. In fact, the night I arrived I took a taxi straight to the first party hosted by "Canal Skate." Canal Skate is a brand new skate park that is hoping to reach the Panamanian skate community with the gospel. A local pastor gave the word at the event and all the major skaters from Panama City were in attendance trying out the new ramps. A mission team from the states constructed the skate park and I was able to meet a lot of people involved in the action-sport community in the process.
On Sunday night, I attended Panama International Church which is the sponsor church of Christian Surfers here. The pastor of this church was the speaker at the skating event and serves on the board of directors for Christian Surfers Panama. It was a bilingual church and there was a special sermon for father's day.
On Monday, I was able to meet with a missionary who is living in the beach community of Santa Catalina and has been doing ministry to surfers through a local church. He is good friends with the guys in the city and is potentially looking into becoming more involved with what God is doing through Christian Surfers Panama.
On Monday night, I was blessed to have dinner with Mike and Lory Proctor and encourage them in their ministry with Christian Surfers. Lory is pregnant with her third child and everything seems to be going very well. I would like to say that I was very inspiring to them, but I think it was the other way around. The faith and love these two have for God blew me away. We ended the night in prayer and the next morning I was on my way to Costa Rica.
I'm currently in Pavones, Costa Rica. I will be investigating this popular surfer town and spending some time in prayer and reading (I may surf too.. hee hee) before I meet up with the National Director on Friday up in Esterillos. Thank you all for your continued prayers and support.
