Happy New Year a couple weeks late to everyone! I hope your Holiday season was a blessed one this year. I need to apologize for my last post on this blog. The goal of it was to trick my now fiance into thinking that I was going to be in the DR for Christmas. I made a surprise visit to Pennsylvania on Christmas Eve however, to surprise her and with her dad's thumbs up - proposed upon arrival! Emily said yes, and we're currently planning our wedding for summer of 2013. Emily just had a miraculous recovery from a surgery to remove a benign tumor, is student teaching this semester, and will be moving back to the DR in late June. Thank you for your prayers as we pursue living the rest of our lives together. In other news, I have announced my retirement as National Director of Christian Surfers Dominican Republic. This will be my last year functioning in this position as I will be training one of our Dominican leaders to take the lead on this mission. It was always my heart in starting this mission that a Dominican would take my place. With the approval of the leadership team here and with our board of directors, we will be electing a new National Director in 6 months. The elected leader will then spend 6 months in training and will be officially recognized next January at the next board meeting. It's been a huge blessing seeing God grow this ministry here in the Dominican Republic. It was just 3 years ago that we started doing barbeques on the beach to reach surfers at one location. We are now 5 chapters nation-wide supported by local surfers, churches, businesses, and all sorts of people that want to see surfers receive the love of Jesus.
We will be hosting our 3rd National Surf Contest at the end of the month. We're expecting over 100 competitors from all over the country. It's an event that has been growing and blessing this community for the past three years of it's existence. Please pray for good weather, traveling mercies for those coming from different parts of the island, the gospel to be spread, and GOOD WAVES!
I'll be spending the next month planning that contest, budgeting and planning my travel plans for the rest of the year, and planning a wedding. Thank you for your constant support!
