Easter is a holiday celebrated world-wide. In Latin America the whole week functions as a celebration known as Semana Santa. (Holy Week) There are no classes for students, most working professionals have a four day weekend, and specifically to the DR, we eat habichuelas con dulce. (Sweet Beans) It really is a magical time of the year as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Emily will be arriving for her spring break too which makes me even more excited about the whole week. It's been a busy couple months for me. The first week of February we hosted our 3rd Annual Christian Surfers DR Surf Contest. We had a team from CSUS down to help us as we celebrated the receiving of over 75 surfers from all over the island and being able to share the gospel. You can check out a report from CSUS and some photos here. This is the fourth year that the Encinitas Chapter in San Diego, CA has sent a team down and it's been a huge blessing partnering with them to see this ministry here grow to what it has in the past years. A HUGE thanks to the team from Encinitas for your hard work and friendship.
Later in February I was able to visit Puerto Rico (PR) again. I truly do love the people there. They're not only our island neighbors, but share much in common culturally with the DR. I will say it felt good seeing the DR Baseball team defeat PR in the finals of the World Baseball Classic this week though. haha. Most of my time spent there this time was meeting developing leaders and assisting in the running of a Christian Surf Contest. You can see a video of that contest here. All in all, it was a great trip. Please be praying for the leadership of CSPR as they continue growing and ministering to the thousands of surfers on their shores.
In April, our youth group at New Life Church will be going on our second retreat up in the Dominican mountain town of Jarabacoa. There will be 20 or so of us seeking God's will as we look into What God desires for our relationship with HIM, ourselves, and others. Later in April I am hoping to join Salvador Castellanos from CS El Salvador in making an exploratory trip to Cuba to meet contacts there interested in beginning a CS Cuba mission. Your prayers are appreciated!
Thanks again for all of your support! Excited for all that God is doing and will be doing through all of us. Please keep Emily and I in your prayers this week as we do some pre-marital counseling, wedding planning, financial strategizing, and plan in general to bring our two lives together. Thanks and God bless.
