Just before Thanksgiving I was able to take my annual trip to visit the guys in Puerto Rico. This was my third trip to visit the guys there and it was great to see familiar faces again. I was picked up and stayed with our main contact named Agustin Arce. Agustin has been leading the ministry in Puerto Rico almost two years now. Though different leaders have come and gone alongside Agustin, he retains a passion and burden to deliver the message of God's love to his community of Puerto Rican Surfers.
I spent a long weekend with Agustin and his family in the capital city of San Juan. I ate with them, prayed with them, and we read the bible together as we would share breakfast. Agustin and his wife, Linda have two kids that are both involved in their church. I was invited to play guitar with their worship band on Sunday morning and joined them for a church picnic in celebrating "Puerto Rico Day" that afternoon. I was able to spend a lot of time with Agustin's pastor during this picnic which I had been unable to do in previous visits. I found myself very thankful for His heart and desire for Christian Surfers (CS) to get rooted well in Puerto Rico.
Agustin and I met with a guy named Alexis who I had met with on previous visits. Alexis has a heart for surfers and feels led to help out in the CS ministry there. We were also able to meet with Yoshua Lugo of Agua Salá Ministry. We are exploring the possibilities with Yoshua of how to partner together in reaching the surfers of Puerto Rico. We feel very strongly that we can reach many more surfers through a unified community of Christians.
Agustin and I found a few hours to go and surf a break called "Peñon" which was a real fun right point break. It makes me very jealous to see all the different waves that Puerto Rico has that the Dominican Republic doesn't have. We're neighboring islands! It's not fair. haha. Sorry for that rant..
All in all the trip to Puerto Rico went very well. We were able to solidify relationships with a lot of people, spend a lot of time in prayer, and seek God's desire for the future of the mission in Puerto Rico. Please pray for Agustin and Puerto Rico that God continues to build a unified team to reach surfers with God's unfailing love.
This month I've been making my monthly calls to all our National Directors and prepping hard for CS's International Conference which my region will be hosting in Costa Rica in July of 2014.
